Hynes: Quinn Is Winner

CHICAGO — There is now only one undecided race in Illinois.

Dan Hynes conceded Thursday morning, and offered Governor Pat Quinn his full support for the general election in November.

Hynes told his supporters, “we rose up and fell just a little short.”

Hynes and Quinn often disagreed during the campaign, but Hynes says supports Quinn’s “decency” in running for Governor and prefers him over whoever the GOP candidate may be.

Quinn is “what Illinois needs,” Hynes declared.

Hynes became emotional during his announcement and said he will not be seeking any more political offices after his term as comptroller ends.

Governor Quinn held his own press conference Thursday to address Hynes’ concession. Saying the primary battle was tough, but is now over.

Hynes’ decision not to fight for a recount or other challenge comes after Quinn was declared the winner by most other Democrats in Illinois and across the country.

The Democratic Governor’s Association says Quinn’s victory gives Democrats a jumpstart on Illinois’ general election in November.

President Obama earlier in the week called Quinn to congratulate him on his victory.
