(MYFOX NATIONAL) - A baby born with a rare and deadly brain condition has been successfully treated with the help of superglue.
The Daily Mail reports that Dafi Evans was born with a condition called vein of Galen malformation, which causes an abnormal communication between the arteries and veins in the brain and puts pressure on the heart.
The day after Dafi was born, doctors at the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London used Histoacryl, which is simlar to superglue, to block the affected area in his brain. Babies with vein of Galen malformations usually die within their first few days of life.
"It's been a rollercoaster year but he's well and doing everything that he should, developing as he should. It's great. It's unbelievable," said Dafi's mother, Catrin Evans.
Last month a New Jersey woman became the state's first patient to undergo a procedure that involved injecting glue into her brain to treat an aneurysm. The glue blocked blood flow to the aneurysm and prevented it from getting bigger or rupturing.
